Michael,

We are a smaller Midwest records storage company and we have several
clients ask for their boxes returned to them once we have shredded the
contents.

We work with them to make sure they understand that the information and
bar code need to be blacked out. Also, we do not break down the boxes
and typically they will pick up the cartons from our facility. If they
are willing to do all of this we try to offer this as a free service,
even thought there is some extra handling on our part and just provide a
little space for them to work. If they wanted us to do it we would
charge them our hourly rate, plus a delivery fee.

Most clients do not want the carton back, and we compact the cardboard
and recycle it through a mill here in town. The cost of handling,
compacting and transporting to the mill is hopefully offset by any
dollars received from the mill for the cardboard. We currently do not
pay the client for their cardboard.

Thanks Dean.

Subject: [RM] destruction of boxes

Hello All:

We are in the process of evaluating the destruction process for in house
shredding vs recycling of cardboard. I'm reaching out to the other
record storage facilities, inquiring as to what you do with the boxes
once the contents are destroyed? Do your customers request to have the
boxes back for future use? Do you charge for the breakdown of boxes or
cardboard recycling fees?

Thank you in advance for your feedback -
