Angel:

After years of exposure to a broad range of RIM functions (paper filing, microfilm, imaging systems, etc.) I decided to 'go for' the CRM. With the encouragement of my employer, I did a minimum of study (to acquaint myself with topics in the ICRM outline that I was least familiar with) and took parts 1 through 5 in the same cycle, to learn where I was weakest and needed to concentrate my further study.

The subjects I boned up the most on were: current management schools of thought, archival (I had had no experience in this are), and manual filing system methods (microfilm, paper, offsite/onsite, terminal digit, middle digit, subject, alphanumeric, etc.) and equipment/space planning. I also reread ISO 15489, which captures basic life cycle principles and some high-level technology concepts.

For part 6, you have to think like a consultant. The testing environment is not well-suited to an essay-type test, so talk to people who have been through the experience for tips and techniques. Most importantly, you need to follow the instructions to the letter. As a grader, I often advise candidates to be sure to reserve the last 1.5 hours for the lesser (40-point) question. Four hours seems like a long time ... until you actually get in there and have to face two case studies cold.

Good luck!

P.S. I'm in the SA ARMA chapter and don't know about an online group. (We do have a local CRM study group that meets in person. -TM
