Sally's post points out a critical issue: time & process management in exam
writing. Many candidates are coming to the examination process after a
number of years away from that kind of context. It is very important to
develop your ability to read swiftly for meaning so that you can properly
assess the questions and make your choice in your own best interest. Then,
allocate your time so that you maximize the points you can achieve.
Spending the majority of time on the minority of available points is not
uncommon in exam takers!

Glad to hear that a mentor really helped. Someone positively disposed to
support your learning and success is a wonderful advantage in the
examination process and beyond. If the mentor is a CRM, you may find a
depth of perspective that enriches your study. If your mentor is in the
workplace, you may find an advocate who, post certification, has a vested
interest in seeing you apply your expertise. A coach can sometimes tell you
what you want--rather than wish--to hear and this is something a mentor may
or may not deliver.

When there is no mentor, the key can be to put yourself in an objective
mindset (an important management skill too often lacking) and evaluate
situations, approaches, successes, failures and missed opportunities around
you. There's as much learning to be had in moving outside of the local
group mindset as there is in taking a course, IMHO. Your decision to go for
the CRM is already moving you into a different playing field--recognize that
in how you approach your work environment.

Good luck!
