Of course it is with respect when I say that I take exception to the idea that "corporate records managers automatically think of destruction" when it comes to disposition. We certainly have "Historical" as a retention value. If a record has legal value that expires, and the record is also historical, the retention is permanent (or whatever one calls "do not destroy"). Our official archive isn't big or fancy, but it exists and I believe it will continue to play an important role in our total information environment.
