Archivists typically work in a cleaner environment than records managers (at least that is what I got from that Nicholas Cage movie "national treasure"), hence the uptick in pay for records managers(we get hazard duty pay).  Both have some common attributes such as 
Verifying authenticity
Keeping records in environments that is conducive to long term storage(archivists go a bit further in this regard than RM's)
Managing the records in such a way that others in the future will be able to look into the past.
