Before we develop too much of an inferiority complex (yes I'm trying to be funny) maybe we need to remember most of the time we are grouped in with all the other administration departments. Many of them have perception problems as well.

In the past I have heard comments like the (in)security department, the accounting paper hoarders, the IT unhelp desk, legal department lunatics, and the HR pod people from another world. I think we fail to remember a lot of admin departments have a stigma associated with them. In some cases its much worse than the "Records" stigma. I have dealt with the records thing too but maybe we need to be careful about what stigma is specifically ours and what is par for the course of being an administration department. Rest assured, most auditors don't hold the same perceptions previously mentioned about records. Things are blurring between records and users with advancements in the information age but we are increasing being called up to handle the information explosion regardless of stigma.
