Aloha All,

Just wanted to chime in on what Peter and Pat said...

Pat is duly correct on all his points...Traveling from Hawaii can be an adventure, so I try to limit my variables (e.g. transfers, hotels, car rental) to a minimum to accommodate my minimum 5-6 hour trips to the mainland as adding connections can add up to trips of 12-13 hours.

Peter and Pat are correct that "status is everything" in regards to airlines...If you can meet the minimum level of "preferred status" with any of the airlines, that means you get through faster in the lines, better seating, and possibly, waived check-in fees. I will have to also consider doing an "upgrade" flight to somewhere, so I can qualify for upgraded status before year-end. I lost a big chunk when USAir went to AA and stopped its code-share with United, but that's how things roll in the airline industry...

I try to stay with "name brand" hotels which offer affinity points, etc. But, I've also become reliant on Traveler Comments on the various hotels and try to stay at 3 stars and above rated places. I've found the traveler comments very helpful in making hotel choices and avoiding pitfalls.

My business trips don't normally include car rentals, but when they do, I stay with those that provide you the "Hertz Gold" treatment that Peter described. It surely gets you in your car and off to wherever a lot faster than haggling at the car rental counter.

Yes, treating all of the airline and hotel employees with "Aloha" helps with your overall travel experience...

Have a great weekend and see you in DC.

Brian
