Another government entity abdicating its responsibility to protect and manage the records of the government’s activities. Jeb Bush proposed this some years ago when he wanted to give the Florida State Archives to a state university. Once the records are out of the government’s hands, it rarely has any say in the accession or disposition decisions. I also wonder – do the archives include more current records and not just historical records?

Subject: [RAINbyte] Providence seeks to move archives to local nonprofit

The City Council has dismissed longtime archivist Paul Campbell as part of a plan to move Providence's municipal archives out of City Hall into the care of a local nonprofit.
City Council President Luis Aponte Thursday said the decision not to extend Campbell's appointment as archivist, which expired at the start if this month, was not related to his being placed on paid suspension last month.

They have occurred under the guidance of federal agencies, and under the umbrella of federal regulations."
