I individually wrapped some of my personal books once for an overseas
shipment and for whatever reason a lot of moisture collected inside the
wrapping and damaged some of the books. As I recall they were in the type
of wrap you purchase at the supermarket but not sure that would make any
difference. Just something to think about and it may've been due to
unusual circumstances in my environment.

Subject: [external]Records Storage Materials - Antique Ledgers
Sent by: Records Management Program <[log in to unmask]>
Good Morning All -
I'm currently in the process of working up a proposal for relocating the
contents and records of a County Courthouse. In addition to the loose
documents and files, there are several hundred antique ledgers (over 100
years old) that will be relocated to a climate-controlled environment for
approximately 2 years while renovations are conducted. Currently, most of
these ledgers are sitting stacked without any protection on the floor in
one of the courthouse storage rooms. The local Historical Society wants
the ledgers to be individually wrapped prior to relocation for storage to
prevent further deterioration, and we are considering using oversized
polybags or bubble wrap. Could someone please tell me if there is a
standard (NARA or otherwise) for the material that we would need to use
and the handling procedures? I would like to cite this in my proposal to
let them know that we are in line with best practices.
Thanks in advance -
