Highlights of the conference includes two plenary presentations on the
journals of the Lewis and Clark expedition and on the history of
reading; a visit to the State Capitol; tours and an evening reception
at the State Historical Society; a behind the scenes tour of Living
History Farms; and an exhibits area featuring Iowa's archives and
historical societies and professional vendors.

Sessions will address a variety of topics including agricultural
archives, confidentiality, ContentDM, archival advocacy, the impact of
the web on archives, and revenue generating activities. There will also
be workshops on oral history, arrangement and description of archival
collections, the creation of metadata for digital collections and
accessioning new materials.

The Midwest Archives Conference is the nation's largest regional
professional association for archivists. Founded in 1972, MAC now has
over 1000 individual members. MAC's 177 institutional members include a
variety of corporate, government, church, and university archives, as
well as historical societies and other manuscripts repositories and
special collections. The MAC region is the twelve heartland states:
Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri,
Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. However, MAC
has individual and institutional members from over 30 other states and
five other nations, and more are always welcome.
