The Mid Atlantic Region of NARA is offering two records management briefings and one records management workshop in Baltimore, MD during November.

Wednesday, November 3, 2004 (10 AM - Noon)
Briefing - E-MAIL - A RISKY BUSINESS?
This two hour briefing explores the records management issues related to e-mail in the Federal workplace. One of the more common questions asked is "What are we supposed to do with our e-mail?" We emphasize that e-mail may be a record and review the relevant statutes, regulations, record keeping requirements and technical issues. The liabilities that e-mail presents to agencies are also discussed, particularly in terms of FOIA and legal discovery. Find out if your email is in compliance.

Wednesday, November 3, 2004 (1 PM - 3 PM)
Briefing - RISK ANALYSIS FOR A RECORDS PROGRAM
This two hour briefing helps you to identify risks and analyze their impact on your agency's records management program. It provides managers and staff with tools to help address current and future program needs. Discussions include techniques and strategies for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating records management risks. How to weigh the costs of eliminating the risk against potential liabilities is also covered. Do you know the risks of not having or not complying with a records management program? Are your agency's records risks under control?

Thursday, November 4, 2004 (9 AM - 4 PM)
Workshop - PLANNING FOR DIGITAL IMAGING SUCCESS
In this full day workshop, you'll learn strategies for planning a successful digital imaging project, with information on the functional, legal, and technical requirements for scanning in the Federal government. We'll discuss the need for imaging, how the technology works, advantages and disadvantages, system components, and indexing. Get details on:
" What digital imaging is
" How to determine if scanning is the right solution for you
" Business process and requirements analysis
" Records management, IT, and program responsibilities
" Where to turn for help

Both the briefings and the workshop will be held at the Fallon Federal Building, 31 Hopkins Plaza, Reagan Conference Room, Rm. G2-20, Baltimore, MD 21201. Due to the room size, attendance will be limited to the first thirty-five registrants. The briefings are free, but the full day workshop is $150.
