Open shelf filing can be an excellent alternative to drawer filing due to accessability

Overcoming objection is easy when time/production overall is observed

Discussion with individual groups of the benefit can relieve much of the objections

I consider the conversion to be a tedious and costly one. Be sure to plan, plan, plan. Expect inconsistency in filing and you may want to be prepared to correct problems at point of contact w/files

The change is being done in a single office but word will spread nationally.. All conversion is currently in progress on 2 floors consisting of 90+ support staff. (not including Attorneys)

All members of staff have reaped benefits -Takes less time to access records, audit records and less damage is done to folders, documents and binders

Everyone/group understands the benefit so ninety percent have adapted to the concept

Disadvantages here would be the aesthetics or appearance

Many lessons learned here but I'm trying to be short- I suggest creating a floor plan displaying current configuration and final configuration

Greetings to everyone,

Am interested in feedback from any members who have converted from
filing systems using drawer filing (vertical / lateral) to shelf filing
- either fixed or mobile.

What were the objections against shelf filing?

How did you overcome objections?

How successful was your conversion?

Where you able to do it corporate-wide?

Who reaped the most benefits?

Did you get total buy-in afterward?

Were there any disadvantages?

Any lessons learned?

Etc.

(And vendors - especially in Ontario, Canada, provide a link to your
company's website - but off list, please! My email address below)
