As a former employee of the Maryland State Archives who spent many hours in the Prince George's County Courthouse, I am fairly certain that most of the records had been moved to off-site annexes, starting in the early 1990s. For instance, PG County land records are housed in the County Administration Building, which is located on the other side of the Upper Marlboro complex and some distance away from the main courthouse. This in no way minimizes the loss of the courthouse, but I think it was largely vacant in terms of records storage. However, this building was used for criminal and civil trials, so there may be some records at risk.

I'll leave it to my erstwhile colleagues at the Maryland State Archives to provide any further information.

As I am typing this message, the old section of the Upper Marlboro
Courthouse in Maryland is burning. The photos are astronomical. As a
records manager and a resident of this state for many years, I wonder
what historical information will be lost. What a shame.
