We're probably all in agreement that their asking for information from
us feels intrusive and feels like a waste of our time. But like Steve
Whitaker said--it's their website, it's their information, they can
throw up whatever barriers they want.

Irony of the day: the world is full of entrepeneurs asking themselves
how can they make money off the internet. And the world is full of
people like us who want to get everything they can off the internet and
can't help being offended when somebody asks for something in return!

Amy's comments .....If the site were wanting that information to charge
for
the privilege of reading their article.....

My response: I too find it annoying when trying to access "free"
white
papers etc and they ask me to log in or register. Maybe it is a time
issue
on my part as much as it is a privacy issue. I don't want to start
receiving e-mails on products, as I was only doing some research.
With
regards to counters, they are notorious for being inaccurate when
counting
site visits. Then there is also the issue of "cookies" being planted
in
your computer. That brings up another privacy issue.
I would certainly like to see a caveat on those sites that ask for my
information, informing me of why they require my information, how they
will
use it and lastly, how they will store it. My two pennies of
thought.
