The Mid Atlantic Region of the National Archives and Records Administration will be offering two one day workshops on Records Management Fundamentals and Planning for Digital Imaging Success. These workshops are being held at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Second Floor Learning Center, 600 East Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23219. The cost of each workshop is $150.00 for and more detailed information can be found below. Records Management Fundamentals

What are valuable agency resources and business assets? Records. This course provides an overview of the basic concepts and practices of managing Federal records. Understand the variety of activities involved at each stage of the records life cycle-creation, maintenance and use, and disposition.

OUTCOMES:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
"       Define Federal records and distinguish them from nonrecord materials and personal papers
"       Understand the organization and function of an agency records management program
"       Know the basic strategies for managing records in all formats to meet recordkeeping requirements
"       Describe the long-term use and potential permanent value of records

Who should attend?
All Federal personnel will find this introductory course helpful to understanding Federal records management. This course will be especially useful for agency managers and employees who can only attend records management training for one day.

Although it is not required, this course is strongly recommended as a foundation for NARA's Certification of Federal Records Management program.

Planning for Digital Imaging Success

In this full day workshop, you'll learn strategies for planning a successful digital imaging project, with information on the functional, legal, and technical requirements for scanning in the Federal government.  We'll discuss the need for imaging, how the technology works, advantages and disadvantages, system components, and indexing.

Outcomes:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
"       Determine if scanning is the right solution
"       Plan a successful digital imaging project
"       Analyze business processes and gather imaging system requirements
"       Meet Federal requirements for scanning temporary and permanent records
"       Understand the roles of program, records management, and IT staff
"       Find answers to questions and other help from the National Archives

Who should attend?
All Federal personnel who are thinking about implementing an imaging system for their records and those who want to evaluate their own imaging system for possible improvement.
