Does anyone have an official policy on the retention of "general
business records"? We define general business records as "electronic
non-record or working files, created or received for general business
use but not required for record retention purposes". The powers that be
are currently discussing whether these documents require a stated policy
for review and deletion.
Thanks!!

Within our Records Management Policy we have the following definition:
Record Copies or Operational Records that are created or received to
support day to day operations; used as convenience copies; draft versions
or work in progress do not have to be retained beyond their usefulness.
These records should be disposed of on a regular basis and should not be
retained beyond three years.
We also define "record" as:
Information that is recorded in a tangible or physical form regardless of
media.
