Records stored in their native format for no longer than three years. I
am working on my faith in Microsoft and have been away from Redmond to
long. They claim that they will be reverse compatible forever (as long
as the sun shines, the grass grows and the wind blows etc.) Any longer
than three years the record should be stored in a more standard format,
TIFF PDF etc.

The disposal of the records would reflect your retention schedule. No
records should be disposed of based on the period being met, without a
review do to potential/existing litigation, the historical value might
have changed, laws might have affected them, whatever.

Keep in mind also the controversy over records on shared drives.
Authoring, being the biggest nut to crack. The ownership issue follows
along with this because the office of record will need to sign off on
disposal.
