I find it necessary to respond to the Legal ISG issue - particularly about
program offerings at the conference. I have asked, solicited and begged
the chairs of the ISG's and other committees in years past to make it an
objective each year to submit at least one program for consideration
during the main conference and not to be segregated off to the ISG day or
Legal Day. I believe that every ISG should submit a program presentation
for each conference. There could be a reserved number of slots available
for ISG presentations and then rotated on a yearly basis so each ISG would
have a presentation included every other year. I agree that legal records
management is different from regular corporate records management as there
are nuances in the legal field that have no counterpart in general
business. However, I think making all the legal offerings available only
in a pre-conference does an injustice to members who may not be able to
get to the pre-conference, or have it paid for, or to new members who may
not be aware that the pre-conference is separate.
As the Chair of GRECO, I made it an objective of the committee to sponsor
a session at the conference last year - part of the reason was to let
people know about GRECO. I think sponsoring a session is a great
recruiting tool for other members also - but doing it in a pre-conference
setting limits the availability to many conference attendees.
As a member of the Chicago Program Committee, there were few submissions
that were ISG specific - and we really tried to identify those that were.
The submission doesn't have to be from a single person, it can be a panel
discussion with two or three ISG members from different areas - in legal,
such as a large law firm, a small law firm and an in-house legal
department.
Okay - I guess I have vented enough - but again, I would encourage ISG
members to submit proposals for consideration at the annual conference -
it is good both for the ISG and the general membership.

Chair, GRECO
