             Announces New Records Management Courses

As part of National Archives and Records Administration's (NARA) mission to ensure ready access to essential evidence that documents the rights of American citizens, the actions of Federal officials, and the national experience, NARA has developed an exciting new curriculum of records management courses designed to meet the changing Federal record keeping environment.

Along with new and revised subject-matter content, we have also completely redesigned our course presentation.  The new curriculum is highly interactive incorporating improved adult learning techniques.

These courses are open to non-federal participants.  While courses focus on Federal records keeping the concepts may be beneficial in other settings.

Registration closes two weeks prior to the scheduled date for the workshop.

The workshops listed below are scheduled to be held:

 May 17 - 19th, 2005 at the

            Patrick V. McNamara Bldg.
            477 Michigan Ave.  Rm. 895
            Detroit, MI

Records Management Fundamentals  (Knowledge Area 1)
This course provides an overview of the basic concepts and practices of managing records. It covers the variety of activities at each stage of the records life cycle: creation, maintenance and use, and disposition.

Cost  $150.

Records Schedule Implementation  (Knowledge Area 4)
How do you use an approved records schedule?  Using a records retention schedule or records manual is easier than you think.  This course provides an overview of how to apply the General Records Schedule and NARA approved record schedules to Federal agency records.  It covers the steps involved in the disposition of records, including destroying temporary records, transferring temporary records to of-site storage, and transferring permanent records to the National Archives  (2 days)
