From the very start of our RM program, we stated that we would not accept
3-ring binders for storage. We stressed that the binders do not fit
properly into the standard size bankers box which results in us putting in
less documents in more boxes resulting in larger storage costs etc etc.
Yes, we do get the occasional manager who insists we do it his way but we
prevail. We even offer to provide them with the expandable folders. But
what really hits home for them is when we remind them that when they
remove their documents from the binders for storage, the binders can then
be reused for the next project. Doesn’t seem like a big deal but around
here, projects normally result in 100+ binders each . When the
departments realize how much they can save by recycling the binders, they
accept our restrictions.
