Dear Colleagues:
During the build of the UN ACCIS study on electronic records, because the
team was multidisciplinary, we found that we were talking to one another at cross
purposes. For our own technical panel purposes we thus made a list of
terminology used in the ARM and IT fields with the typically very different ARM and
IT definitions. It was sufficiently useful to the team that it was subsequently
decided to publish the glossary as part of the group's final repoprt ,
"Managing Electronic Records: Issues and Guidelines."

Whenever you're looking for records management definitions, there are
two additional resources you should remember: ARMA International
publishes a "Glossary of Records and Information Terms" which is also an
ANSI/ARMA standard.
And, the ISO 15489 standard has definitions for many of these terms as
well. In fact, some of the ISO definitions are built around the core of
the ARMA Glossary.
Both of the above can be purchased through the ARMA online bookstore at
