Friends Texian and otherwise,

According to my colleagues at the Texas State Library, there never was any
provision to allow secession:

While I'm sad to quash such a fun rumor, we are all about documenting the
actions of government, and preserving that documentation that the truth may
win out.

In case you're curious, I am 3rd generation Texan, and have heard this rumor
much of my life.

Cheers,
Laura Hensey
