is it that records management is just plain old not sexy like IT?"

I kind of liken IT to mechanics (excuse the analogy). You have this
wonderful vehicle which provides you with wonderful services but you need
mechanics to make it run and to keep it running. Records management is
dependant, to a large extent, on technology. We create our wonderful
processes, policies, best practices, classification systems etc. etc. but we
need the technology to make it all run effectively. The argument has been
made over and over, as to what we did before the advent of technology, i.e.
paper. Well we didn't work in the global and decentralized environment as
much as we do today. No longer do employees and managers all have to be on
the same floor, same building or even in the same city or country. We work
with PDA's, blackberries and a plethora of other wireless devices. However,
they all are dependant on technology. I know the power has gone out here
and everybody gets sent home! Just a few comments which may stimulate
discussion. I hope you are having a great day.
