Education is critical and requires time and effort. Whatever you do,
partner with Legal and have them review it.

As regards online training, make sure that the training is part of your
company's Learning Management System (LMS). Have a short test at the
end of the training (10 simple, basic questions) that indicate the
individual went through the training. This record is kept by Training
and added to the employee's personnel file. Your association with
Training and Legal is the company's stamp of approval providing
automatic credibility and acceptance of the training module.

FYI, I'm doing training modules on special issues, e.g. email
management, etc. These training modules are for the general population.
Education is also achieved through articles in the company newsletter,
marketing tools, presentations, checklists, etc. More specialized,
higher level training is done for departmental records contacts, e.g.
Holds, Case Law, RM in 2004, Application training, etc., utilizing
various avenues, e.g. Process Improvement Team (PIT), publications,
presentations, etc.

Subject: RECORDS MANAGEMENT WEB BASED TRAINING PROGRAM

FPL Corporate Records will be developing a records management training
program accessed through the internal company web. The purpose of the
program is to provide employees with an introduction to records
management purposes, methodologies and processes.

I would appreciate any suggested best practices or pitfalls with
implementing web based training.
