Anne, shredders are like many other items.....you get what you pay for.
Our shredder sometimes is running for hours on end without problems. We
have an Ideal shredder model 3102. It has a 12" throat so can handle 11 x
17 paper or 8 1/2 x 11 paper landscape. The later is important as it
feeds large volume of letter size that much quicker. It can also grind
CD's into strips....quite uniquely.

Consider the largest volume you will be doing in a day and buy
accordingly. Our shredder cost $1700 but I know that it will handle
everything we throw at it. It shreds quickly, 10 sheets at a time, and if
a jam occurs (too many sheets) can reverse out. It automatically stops if
the feed bag is full.

The website is www. ideal.de but I know it can be purchased within Canada
and the US.
