If you are doing anything in bulk, eg boxes at a time, you need something
a bit more heavy duty than you find at most stationery suppliers. We have
two, both German HSM machines bought a couple of years ago:

* The Terminator - 80 ppm crosscut shredder, eats diskettes, CD's, paper
clips and staples (but not bulldog clips), weighs 200 kg, cost about
A$8,500
* Terminator Two - 15 ppm high security shredder (it comes out about 1x3
mm), eats staples but nothing more solid, weighs 80 kg, cost about A$6,000

Neither will handle anything stringy (videotapes, coil bindings) because
it gets all wrapped around their teeth. The only maintenance is a quick
squirt of light oil before each run, to keep their teeth clean and sharp.
Both bristle with safety interlocks, autoreverse if jammed, autostop when
the bag fills up etc etc.

The Terminator needs a 415v three phase power source, Terminator Two runs
on ordinary (Aust) 240v mains power. I assume the manufacturer adjusts
this for North America.

Not having to remove staples or take documents out of file jackets saves
heaps of time.

Never had a problem with either of them.

Cheers

Glenn

These views are mine alone. They may or may not be those of any
previous or present employers or clients. I don't know. If I'd asked
and they'd agreed, I would have signed it "Harry Peck and Co and
Glenn". Or whatever. But I haven't, so I didn't.
