Hi Earl:
In this case, I believe "orphan" is the adjective, while "orphaned" is the
verb. This would imply files that are lacking support, supervision, or
care. However, I like the term "abandoned" (the adjective), since it
implies files that have been deserted because of a lack of responsibility by
the originating or custodial organization.

|Does anyone have a good, working definition of the term
|"orphan file?" I'm developing a guideline on how to handle
|files that are left over after someone leaves a department,
|and no one else knows what to do with them.
|
|Should the term be "orphan files" or "orphaned files?" Also,
|any tips on how you are handling these kinds of files would be
|greatly appreciated.
