First, welcome back to the list.

Second, this is kind of a two part question.  Labels have a print and
adhesive component.  My experience tells me that he adhesive on laser labels
that do not wrap over the top of the tab on the folder can degrade in as
little as 2-5 years even when stored in good HVAC environments, causing
labels to fall off the file(s).  It can happen faster if offices they were
used in or storage spaces are environmentally challenged.  The laser ink is
more likely to last longer than the adhesive, but if the labels are gone and
fall into the box, what does it matter?  Using labels that are twice as tall
as the tab on the folder and folded so that 1/2 is on back and 1/2 is on
front allows for better adhesion.  I don't have any statistics on ink
longevity handy.
