IT records custodians would most likely have system designs, network
layouts, users handbooks to systems they designed, operational manuals,
email records of various subjects, records of help desk tickets (open
and closed), plans for future architecture of the network, old
architecture plans, configuration management inventory, records of
software licensing, system engineering records, research records on
software testing and results of testing, records of breaches of the
network, network security infrastructure files, life cycle management of
information systems, the list could go on. Don't let them snow you.
Most IT folks claim they don't have records. Remember, there are system
administrators among them with access to everyone's emails.

I am seeking assistance on IT records. Specifically, which
records would they be the "owners" of and thus listing them on a records
inventory report. Our IT department has stated that they don't own any
records. Who is responsible for reporting on backup tapes? for example.
Any help would be appreciated.
