The Greater Baltimore Maryland Chapter (GBMC) of ARMA International (Association of Records Managers and Administrators,) in conjunction with Cohasset Associates, Inc., acknowledged to be the leading consulting firm in electronic records and information management, will present "Managing Electronic Records" as its Spring Seminar.

Morning:

 

A.     Managing Electronic Records: Getting Started

Session provides an introduction to the major issues and challenges associated with effectively managing electronic records.  An overview of how to get started on developing an overall plan for addressing your organization's electronic records will be provided.  This plan results from the development of a Statement of Needs that identifies an organization's specific problems, computing environment, risks, resources and priorities. 

 

 

B.     What IT really means: Records Management for IT

Richard (Dick) Fisher

Cohasset Associates, Inc.

 

Session provides guidance on IT/IS's role in electronic records management.  It addresses: 1) responsibilities IT/IS should fulfill, 2) major IT/IS challenges in establishing as ERM framework and infrastructure, and 3) ERM requirements to be part of the business application development process.

C.  Assured Records Management: Establish and Maintain a New Level of Performance

Assured Records Management (ARM) is a new approach to meeting the organizational and technical challenges associated with electronic records management (ERM).  This session provides an overview of the methodology, developed by Cohasset Associates, to help organizations achieve higher, sustainable levels of ERM performance---with evidence to prove it.

 

 

D. Ensuring the Preservation of Usable Authentic Electronic Records
    Charles Dollar, PhD

Session explores the fundamental challenges of ensuring long-term access to usable authentic electronic records and recommends procedures and best practices.  Specific attention is drawn to the role of international standards, especially ISO 18492, "Long-Term Preservation of Electronic Document Based Information," and ISO 19005, "Electronic Document File Format for Long-Term Preservation."
