  When complying with a subpoena, the possiblity that personal storage devices may have been used should be addressed even if the organization has strict guidelines prohibitting their use.  It is always possible, and in my experience likely, that records, paper or electronic, responsive to discovery requests will be held by some users outside of the central collection.  When responding to a request, the organization should identify any personnel involved and affirmatively request any records they may hold.  This will not ensure compliance by the user, but will allow the organization to show due diligence.
