Linda -

Chris is right, of course...but your legal footing may depend on the
State you are located in. Here in Virginia, for example, the Copies as
Evidence legislation allows for the destruction of originals and use of
reformatted copies in court in most instances.

For a more complete explanation (including a link to Don Skupsky's
Blog), see: http://www.irch.com/articles/articl14.htm

Cheers!

Mark

Linda,

Imaging should be designed to capture the record as part of the business
process. Regardless of the version of the record. Document your process
and you'll be fine.

Subject: [RM] scanning question

Folks,

I have a question regarding scanning original vs. copies of originals:
my boss thinks it doesn't make a difference except for scan quality, I'm
concerned about the legal aspect if we lose all paper copies in a fire
and need to produce the scanned images. Does it make a difference?
