all excellent points by all, but one thing that has not been mentioned
-- the volume of records to be destroyed. How many boxes do you
destroy at a time? less than 100, more than 100 but less than 500 or
more than 500? When developing the SLA (as suggested by DougA) find
out from your vendor how long it will take them to pull, palletize and
shrinkwrap the boxes for pickup by the company doing the destruction.
If the CRC has their own in-house shredder operation find out what the
throughput of the shredder is, i.e., how many boxes per hour can the
machine handle? Do you want one single certificate of destruction or
do you want the certificate for each batch? i.e., you want to destroy
500 boxes of records, they do 5 batches of 100 boxes. do you want one
certificate or 5? Each individual certificate could specify the boxes
it represents.
Will the CRC charge you for temporary labor to pull all of your
records or will they use their normal staff?

good discussion overall
