Thanks to all who have responded so far.

Just to clarify for the few people that have responded
(both on and off list.)

First - I am not talking about THIS list.

Second - What I am talking about is a state agency
that sponsors, moderates, or otherwise maintains a
listserv either for internal or external use.

What do you think should a retention period for the
archived body of stored postings (the list archives)?

Third - I (myself) am talking about "archiving" from
an archiving/records mgmt point of view, not the IT
form of archiving (moving offline).

Basically, (and I do know that content helps determine
retention) How long should an agency maintain the
stored postings of a listserv?

I also know that this is a tricky question that may
not have a good answer.

Thanks,
Mark J. Myers
