One thought.  How long are bankruptcies kept at the National Archives.  I
know some if not all cases are because I've had to get them from there
before.

Not that this should set your retention, but it would tell you how long the
court's original is available which could be a consideration.

I am revising our retention schedule. I am currently trying to locate
information regarding the retention of bankruptcy files. The NC Bar
Association web page states a minimum of six years after closing the files.
The book, Records Management in the Legal Environment lists seven years
after the bankruptcy case has closed. 
 
I would appreciate it if anyone might share other guidelines for retaining
bankruptcy cases.
