Hi -

Terri's questions as well as Karyn's earlier message on citations and
legal research prompted me to extend an invitation to the CGOC webcast
happening Tuesday, April 25th with a Citigroup executive, "One Size Fits
All - Global Program Implications". (registration and event information
http://marketing.pss-systems.com/te/l/r/grr?lid=204&cid=4020&t=538366)

This will be an exceptional opportunity to engage with other compliance
execs and hear from Harry Pugh, Managing Director, Operations &
Technology Policy Coordinator of Citigroup. Harry will discuss his
global retention strategy and plan, including how he deals with the
complex international regulatory environment, diverse business unit
needs and conflicting privacy rules in various geographies. Harry's
session will provide insight on how your organization can have
classification schemes and retention schedules that are relevant,
accurate, and sustainable on a global scale.

"I expect corporations to have a document retention program that is
tightly integrated with sound electronic discovery processes so that
they can meet their discovery obligations and the emerging rules. CGOC
events are an excellent venue for learning and perhaps the best seminars
you will find on this subject."

-- Magistrate Judge Ronald Hedges, New Jersey

Next Tuesday's CGOC webcast, "One Size Fits All - Global Program
Implications" is the second event in our Plan of Action program focused
on how to define and implement global retention policies. The first
event offered insight on what to include in your retention policy to
better enable e-discovery and legal holds. (The full replay to this
event is available in our private participants portal, let me know if
you'd like to access the site.)

This program is designed to help organizations increase their control
and drive down cost and risk. The program culminates in a day long
bootcamp for corporate retention leaders including Harry, Kevin Brady,
Esq. of Connelly Bove and experts from Ernst & Young LLP.

Register online for next Tuesday's webcast, "One Size Fits All - Global
Program Implications" to hear Citigroup's strategy and also learn more
about the entire program. CGOC events are complimentary.

I hope you will join us on April 25th at noon eastern!

Best regards,
Virginia

Subject: [RM] Records Retention Laws

I have been watching the e-mails since I have joined the group and now
realize how naive I am. I work for a world-wide manufacturing
corporation and got handed the job of Records and Information about 9
years ago for the divisions in North America, Canada and Mexico. The
job was a side thing to start. (Crazy - I know) Then a couple of years
ago I got the job of being the person to gather all information for
litigation. Since then, I have tried to get a better understanding and
I have made some great improvements to it. I am now listed as the RIM
Supervisor but have now realized I'm
still far from what a true Records Manager should be. For example, all
of
my retention schedules are in place from what was previously decided
before I joined. If a change is needed, it is authorized through our
legal department who,in my opinion, (sorry if this comes out wrong) do
not really know where to get the information themselves on how long
something should be retained. I think they just make a decision on how
long they feel it will be valuable. I know that we are in complaince
with documents pertaining to HR, Finance-GA, etc. but what about other
documents?

It seems I am able to find plenty of documentation to support government
agencies, but does anyone have good suggestions for me on where to get
valuable insight for retention schedules in a manufacturing
organization?

One problem that I have is that our corporate offices are in Stockholm
Sweden and I'm sure many of you know that the laws are very different
over there. So getting the buy-in to do what is necessary always takes
documentation.

Any ideas?
