While this is slightly off of the international records management issue, it
is of importance for records managers, and that is acceptable use policies
for electronic communications, such as e-mail or instant messaging. Global
companies may be violating other country laws by their policies for e-mail,
or Sarbanes-Oxley. The American Bar Association has a publication
entitled: "Employee Use of the Internet and E-Mail, a Model Corporate
Policy". The book identifies not only US and Canadian laws, but many other
countries as well. It is very useful to help determine that the policies
your company has written do not violate the laws of other countries.

You can review and/or order the book from the American Bar Association
website: www.abanet.org.
