I can give 6 reasons off the top of my head (and having these may
depend on the application you use)

Auditability - Stronger auditing of who did what with a record and when

Discovery - greater chance of discovering the record (hard to search a
paper document)

Accessibility - a record can be accessed by many people at the same
time at (potentially) any time (not relying on access to the one paper
copy)

Security - assuming this is set up properly a stronger security to
records is possible (and it is more flexible - see an object exists but
not be able to open it in some systems),

Reuse / record lifecycle- reuse a record to create a new record more
easily, versions of a document (record) are in the one place

Sentencing and Destruction - potentially easier and more efficient (a
push of a button/ the running of some script), NOTE: it should be more
controllable, and auditable as well....A lot of policy and procedures
need to be put into place though.

Cheers

John D
