Here's a similar tale from Minnesota, but with a happier ending--the
lost package was belatedly delivered, apparently intact:

Quote:
"The incident allowed the Department of Revenue to review all of its
policies and procedures related to the transfer of taxpayer data. In
addition, the department plans to expand a pilot program to all of its
regional offices that allows for the electronic transfer of information,
the department is enhancing its password protection capabilities and
making
encryption software available to all employees."

Organizations are getting the message. But there's nothing like public
pressure to speed up those projects that might otherwise have trouble
getting funded.
