I wish we could say "good-bye hanging files." But alas, everyone still uses them. I asked our staff to always put manila folders inside of the hanging folders. Then take the manila folders out when it comes time to box for storage, leaving the hanging file in the file drawer. Manila folders cost a tiny fraction of what we pay for hanging folders, and I hoped the cost savings would get their attention. I asked everyone to "consider the hanging file as part of the file cabinet, not part of the file."

I nominate Michele Marburg for RIM Goddess for your suggestion to put the
folders in the plastic boxes which can be hung from the railings or not.  I
tested it with my box of active files.  I can reconfigure the way the files
are in my drawers to fill the space.  Goodbye hanging files.
