<Some designations, like the MIT and LIT designations appear to
be...well....obsolete, as AIIM now focuses on encouraging people to
obtain an ECM practitioner, specialist or master designation. I've not
yet heard of any efforts to move those with MIT or LIT designations to
the ECM designation....>

As a recipient/holder of both the MIT and the LIT, I can say that these
designations are based on both experience in AIIM (or its predecessor
NMA) and past experience in the profession (not current work or future
work). It is not based on taking any courses or passing any exams, and
continuing education/development would not apply.
