I'd also note that this is the approach that the Project Management
Institute, whose letters are pretty well recognized, has taken. In addition
to the "classic" Project Management Professional, or PMP, PMI has added the
Certificate Associate in Project Management and will debut a new credential
for program management sometime in 2007.

Not saying I necessarily agree with this approach, but it's another data
point. And of course the ICRM already does this with the CRM and CRM/NS.

I'm thinking out loud here so forgive me if I don't have everything in
place.........but what about a multi-tiered certification process
culminating with the CRM? Not everyone in RM will have the experience
or education (or desire) to become a CRM but needs some alphabet soup
behind their names to satisfy their employers. Why not have a set of
exams each devoted to a different level of experience, education etc. (an
associate level, a practioner level, a specialist level etc) but sanctioned
by the ICRM.
