Just as a note in support of Bill Roach's post.... I work with some
organizations, including a large metropolitan District Attorney's office
where case files are scanned, and are subsequently destroyed...for
almost all cases, leaving the document images as the remaining official
record of that jurisdiction. The exceptions focus on "lifer" cases
(Capital Punishment or Life sentences) and "three strikes" types of
cases that also involve mandatory life sentences. Images for such files
are not "just a backup".......
