It was mentioned that some of the regional vendors are taking steps to help 
clients to digitize records and/or convert from older media.

Alas, that seems to be pretty rare among the medium/large vendors. Let's 
face it, inertia (and of course money) make it much more attractive to 
store 1,000 reels of tape for you versus a few DVDs. [I know of one company 
that still pays for the storage of such data after 15 years, with no idea 
of what's on those tapes.]

There's only one off-site vendor of any size that I know of who 
consistently, pro-actively encourages such modernizations. I'd rather not 
plug a particular vendor on the list, but will be happy to respond off-list.
