Actually "stuff" became an accepted RM technical term when an article on
this topic was published in the RMAA's Informa Quarterly a few years back.
The article is available from

scroll down to "Towards a unified theory of stuff". It discusses the need
for a generic term encapsulating all the things we put in our databases, and
hypothesises the ability to predict the content of stuff not yet created.
And of course the author is suitably modest, if not tongue in cheek.
