<Instant and text messaging has only encouraged the younger generation
to write this way>

My son and daughter both have cell phones. Seems extravagant sometimes
but it's a very good feeling being able to contact them wherever they
happen to be. I pay for the basic service but since text messaging is
extra I make them pay for that. My son was bummed when the rate for
text messaging went up. I said, "So call people instead of text
messaging," but he said lately his friends have been doing more text
messaging than calling. My observations:

- When typing with a cell phone keypad even I am tempted to use
acronyms.

- Considering kids rarely read books any more, it's good to see they're
at least reading and writing with their cells!
