E mail is a form of communication not a distinct records type.  You retain 
the message based on the content of the message.

Records are managed in a retention schedule independent of media and 
should be managed consistently

While there may be differences in the way records on different are stored 
-they are managed the same way- by current well researched retention 
schedules.
