Hi,
The great San Francisco fire that followed the great San Francisco
earthquake of 1906. Not only were government records, personal records,
maps and libraries destroyed, but newspapers. What little of San Francisco
history survives was sent or taken out of the area before the disaster.
The earthquake itself did not cause as much damage and loss of life as the
fire.
