Lori,

I worked for an ISO-9001 company that manufactured parts for the automotive
industry. The retention for 'keep samples' was as follows: those items that
were not integral to a supplemental restraint system (SRS) were kept two
years, those items that were integral to the SRS were kept 17. This was
based on discussions with customers and the lifecycle of the vehicle.

Hope this helps.

Linda Buss

Subject: [RM] Guidelines for Automotive parts retention

I have posted several times on the list serve and I am coming to this venue
again to get direction on retention for automotive parts. My company is
developing electronic parts that are being tested for use in the automotive
industry. The Records team is looking for information on this industry since
this is a new area for us. I am having a difficult time locating information
in the CFR's that relate to automotive parts.
I know we've had some posts from persons working for Honda. Any information
you may have on researching this area would be helpful.

Thanks,
