  I can't speak to the term prior to or after, but from 1998--2000, UT Austin's Graduate School of Library and Information Science (today's "School of Information") called the body of knowledge and practice supporting an archives "the archival enterprise" per the venerable Dr. David B Gracy, II.  We also used the term, "archives".
